A Fishing Family

Chad Smith grew up fishing the banks of Lake Oconee and it’s sister lake, Lake Sinclair. Fishing for large mouth bass, it became his passion for many years. He fished his first Bass tournament at just 14 years old , and he soon started making the Top 10 in most tournaments he fished. 

Chad fished many local and regional tournaments regularly,  earning a check. After a few years, he started chasing the Big Oconee catfish that most people had no idea were growing as large as he caught. Boating multiple lake records in just a 2-3 year span, he began his Full Time guiding career. At only 18 years old, Captain Chad was soon in the spotlight and being featured in many magazines, both locally and nationally. He coined the phrase of calling Oconee, “Little Santee.”  Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair reminded him of the sister lakes in South Carolina; Lake Moultree and Lake Marion, also known as Santee Cooper. These two Carolina lakes are known for their trophy sized catfish.

After a few years, he honed in on his Crappie and hybrid/striped bass fishing skills. He quickly learned the habits of these fish and the multiple techniques to catch them.

Chad now has a family with a beautiful wife and 7 kids. That was not a typo: 7 kids!!! With that being said, Chad Smith Guide Sevice loves being able to take out kids and families to show them a great fun day on the lake!

Being a guide service that is focused around kids,family, and fun, Capt.Chad Smith has 2 rules:

#1) No Bananas On the boat! Bananas are bad luck and nobody wants that!

#2) He does allow alcoholic beverages, but if anyone of legal age gets “Drunk” the fishing trip is over. PERIOD.
